This Gran Filtro is my favorite so far of the Lavazza coffees I have tried (Rosso, gold can, black can espressos). While the other three were made for espresso, I used them instead to make regular coffee in the Cuisinart coffee maker. They were all good, but seemed to lack a bit of... something, perhaps because they were meant to be extracted in an espresso machine rather than dripped through a coffeemaker. For those, I used seven tablespoons of coffee to one quart of water. I figured with these mini-bricks I would have to adjust the amount of water I used, but I didn't. One of these with a quart of water suits my taste perfectly. Since I choose not to grind my own beans, I love that each of these little 2.25-oz. vacuum packs is good for one pot, so the pre-ground coffee isn't getting stale overnight. I would like it if Amazon would offer the dark roast variety of Gran Filtro in the 2.25-oz. size, as well.

We have been looking everywhere for pre-measured coffee that has a nice bold flavor -- the regular old Colombian you get in restaurants is OK, but he is a Kona / espresso fan, so we needed something with a little more "oomph." Hilton Hotels offers Lavazza Gran Filtro coffee pods for in-room coffee. Normally, in-room coffee is hit or miss (mostly miss), and I initially thought Lavazza would be the same, as I'd never heard of it until then. Boy, was I wrong! It isn't too strong, nor too acidic, and it tastes great without creamer or too much sugar (which I like lots of both in my coffee). I liked it so much that I decided to order these little bags.

Perfect for superautomatic espresso machines (beans are not greasy). I've saved thousands of dollars over the past five years making my own lattes, cappuccinos and mochas at home. The current coffee count on my superautomatic Gaggia 90501 Titanium SS Super Automatic Espresso and Cappuccino Machine, Stainless Steel is 4,255. "Charbucks" charges $3.20 for a one-shot latte using burnt-tasting espresso - 4,255 lattes over five years would have cost me $13,616! A bi-monthly subscription to Lavazza beans is the only way to go.

We love dark roast coffee, so take that up front for this review. However, I was shocked to see I could subscribe & save Italian Decaf coffee shipped to my house for under $4 per bag. Then, I realized you only get 8 ounces per bag, which is half the grocery store size normal bags. Then we brewed it. I don't think it tasted bad, but even the smell of the grounds wasn't as fresh as other companies. And the flavor was pretty empty - it is so smooth that we found it almost flavorless.



Also, this is a chemically decaffeinated product, and we find it is worth it to pay an extra $1 per bag and go for the Swiss Water decaffeination which is natural and not chemical.



Anyhow, the flavor wasn't to our liking and we have moved on.

We discovered Lavazza coffee while staying in an upscale club in Chicago. The coffee maker in the room had Lavazza Gran Filtro as the choice. I was impressed by the coffee coming out of this little machine, but figured it was just the opulence of the place overwhelming my taste buds. Then I discovered a small Lavazza coffee shop nearby and the coffee was even better. My love for Lavazza coffee was born.



But alas, too much caffeine makes me nuts. Could the decaf be any good? It is! The same smooth, slightly sweet, never bitter taste of Gran Filtro comes through in the decaf. We keep both the regular and decaf on hand and regularly get good reviews on the coffee we serve. I've stopped buying anything else.

Supercrema in my opinion holds up better for those who like to add milk to their espresso drink. I don't think these beans will work at all for those who like latte. First of all it is loosely packed. When I first used the product, water came out first before I could see any coffee and that is entirely on the packing. To me the chocolate like taste is not for me. It tempers with the way I like my coffee to taste. Bottom-line it is not nearly as good as Starbucks. Had I rated this product the first week I tried it, I would have given it one star. But now since it has been a while I am a little more forgiving. It is cheaper than most pods to begin with. Pressing on the pod helps the loose packing problem. Since I drink at least 3 cups a day, I have chosen to make one Starbucks and then do the rest with this to save some. But if you ask me to entirely switch to this product, I wouldn't even think about it. However I would suggest the before you get 150 pack, first try the lesser package. At first I felt trapped with 150 pods that I hated until I compromised and coped. If you're not looking to save, look away. But if you want to save, after a while it is not too bad.

Lavazza is one of the better espresso coffees from Italy. It's consistently high quality, with a smooth taste, and a nice crema. I've purchased other coffee from this seller, and the shipping is quick and very secure. You can't beat the price at around 30 cents per pod. I highly recommend this coffee and the seller on Ebay who offers it for such a reasonable price.

You can feel that the pods are too loosely packed when you have it in your hand. I tried to make the shortest shot my machine allows, but it overflowed my shot glass! In the end the coffee was weak tasting. I am not happy with this purchase and I will try to return it.

This is the third time I've bought a big box of the Lavazza espresso pots. The flavor is great and the price is great, so what could be the problem? For the first time, in this box of 150, a few of the pods aren't properly sealed and leak. Not a big problem, but still it detracts from this otherwise great product.
